Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature Polish artist, Sebastian Rudko, in Sensorial Realms. The exhibition is scheduled to run from December 16, 2010 through January 7, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, December 02, 2010).
The pervasiveness of nature shines through Sebastian Rudko’s urban scenes in his sensitivity to the shifting qualities of sunlight on glass. Working in oils on canvas and linen, Rudko smoothly paints fleeting moments of reflection and refraction, blending the inner and outer worlds together into a single experience like layers of transparency. Perspectives become bent and warped as he captures fragments of light and time on mirrored and reflective surfaces, creating a strong sense of presence and detachment in his compositions as if seen through a window while passing by. While Rudko uses photographs and sketches to create his compositions, the impressions of memory are vital to his art, shaping the subtle energy and atmosphere of his works.
A Polish native, Rudko developed his skills while studying painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. Since graduating, his paintings have received much attention in his homeland and now internationally with his recognition in the 2010 Chelsea International Fine Art Competition in New York.
